By delivering this priority we will create a city with a strong and resilient economy, where inclusive growth is promoted and delivered, businesses are enabled to innovate and grow and new local jobs are created.  

We have amended the One Coventry Plan following your feedback on this priority by:

  • Expanding our commitment to ensure pathways to employment for young people to include adults with mental ill health, disabilities, carers and new migrants to the city, young people from diverse backgrounds

  • Being clear that we will, where possible, prioritise jobs and skills for local people and utilise local small businesses and source local materials when delivering projects

  • Ensuring our transport infrastructure not only attracts investment but is also sustainable and inclusive with an improved public transport network

  • Including a commitment to ensure our city centre remains clean and tidy and offers a diverse range of experiences for residents and visitors.

  • Being clear that we will utilise our tender criteria to capture social value commitments that align to our Social Value & Sustainability Policy

    They are being staged by Shearer Property Regeneration Limited (SPRL), the development partnership between award-winning housebuilder The Hill Group and Shearer Property Group (SPG).

    Small business leaders across Coventry are invited to take advantage of the 90% government-funded Help to Grow: Management Course. Designed by entrepreneurs and industry experts from the UK's leading business schools, the course helps small business leaders and senior managers from every industry to boost leadership skills as well as business performance and resilience.

    The scheme is a 12-week course covering the critical components required to develop a resilient business strategy. It includes online and face-to-face sessions, 10 hours of 1-to-1 mentoring, peer networking, and support to develop a Growth Action Plan. The course costs £750 and is 90% funded by UK government.

    This practical leadership course provides time away from the challenges of running a business to invest in your leadership, equipping you with the knowledge and confidence to take your business to the next level:

    • Develop leadership skills across all areas of business including strategic planning, employee engagement, vision and values, finance, and marketing
    • Develop strategies for market segmentation, positioning and targeting to streamline the marketing approach
    • Gain exclusive access to a regional peer network to share practical challenges, ideas, and experiences
    • Work with a mentor to develop a Growth Action Plan tailored to your business and its unique journey
    • Learn how to engage your employees on the business journey and plan the future structure of the organisation
    • Identify new technologies and digital approaches to enhance innovation and productivity across your business
    • Improve operational efficiency to save time and money

    At the end of the Help to Grow: Management Course, you will be ready to lead the change required to scale your business, even in the most challenging of conditions.

    To be eligible for the course, your business must employ between 5 and 249 people and have been operational for at least a year. SMEs employing 10 or more people can enrol 2 senior managers on the course

    The course is delivered by multiple Small Business Charter-accredited business schools in the West Midlands region. More information, including course dates and testimonials from course participants, is available on the website.

    The Council will be considering a report next week around the £12.9m ambitious capital programme supporting innovative transport and highways projects, keeping the city as one of the most forward-thinking in the country.

    Alongside the enhancement and maintenance of the city’s roads, pavements and transport infrastructure there are pioneering projects such as the Coventry Very Light Rail, All Electric buses and Gigafactory.

    The Council is to discuss plans to take back the ownership and management of the Lower Precinct and Coventry Market.

    The Council already owns the freehold of the site, but Royal London Asset Management has a long-term lease over Lower Precinct and the market. Discussions are now underway for the Council to take back that lease.

    Coventry University is the latest organisation to become part of Coventry City Council’s planned cultural transformation of the city’s former IKEA building.

    Now known as the City Centre Cultural Gateway (CCCG), the building will be repurposed to become a landmark cultural destination in Coventry.

    Coventry University would be utilising floors five and six by creating a cultural hub which would see a range of facilities on offer, including teaching areas, research space and attractions
