Neighbourhood Nature Coventry: Connecting Communities Through Nature

Intercultural Roots for Public Health is excited to shine a spotlight on Neighbourhood Nature Coventry: Sherbourne to Street Corners, a 12-month community-led programme delivered in partnership with Third Sector Renewables.

Taking place across Hillfields, Foleshill and Willenhall, the project brings people together through nature, creativity and practical environmental action. Activities are centred around the River Sherbourne, local parks and community spaces, creating opportunities for residents to connect with each other and the natural world close to home.

What We've Been Working On

Neighbourhood Nature Coventry supports local people to take part in a range of welcoming, accessible activities, including:

• Nature walks and stewardship days
• River and park litter picks
• Pollinator planters and pocket rewilding projects
• Wildlife-friendly allotment activities
• Family-friendly outdoor learning and eco-crafts
• Community repair, reuse and waste-reduction initiatives

The programme is designed to be inclusive and community-led, with opportunities for residents to help shape activities, volunteer and become part of a growing network of local environmental champions.

Looking Ahead

We're currently developing a number of exciting activities for the coming months, including:

Community Allotment Activities
Practical, hands-on sessions that may include willow weaving, fruit tree planting and creating wildlife-friendly features.

Balsam Bashing Along the River
A community conservation day planned for late August, bringing residents together to care for local green spaces and river environments.

River Festival – 19 September 2026
A special community gathering focused on storytelling, connection and celebrating local experiences of nature and place.

Coventry Cathedral Festival – 12 September 2026
Opportunities are being explored for community members involved in the project to share their work and experiences as part of the wider festival programme.

Mothers Who Make Session – 15 November 2026
A creative gathering in partnership with Mothers Who Make, creating space for mothers and caregivers to connect through creativity and shared experiences.

Community Voices Matter

Recent conversations with members of the Inini community highlighted the importance of creating welcoming spaces where everyone feels they belong. Future activities will continue to explore ways of strengthening connections between people, nature and place, while ensuring that participation remains accessible and meaningful for all.
