This achievement has been made possible thanks to the ongoing support of the Community Resilience Team, whose partnership has helped strengthen local services and opportunities for residents.
Destination Ball Hill exists for everyone who lives, works, or spends time in our area. This new funding is a major step forward in building a cleaner, safer and more connected neighbourhood that we can all be proud of.
A Growing Hub at the Heart of Ball Hill
Since June 2024, we have been running a small-scale community hub from the 2âTone CafĂ© in collaboration with local organisations. In that time, weâve welcomed up to 100 people each week, offering an inclusive space for support, activities, and social connection.
Our current programme includes:
- Job Club
- Arts and crafts groups
- Mental health support
- Gardening and environmental projects
- Children and family activities
- Holiday events
- Popâup library and toy library
- Community litter picks
These sessions have helped bring people together, develop new skills, and create a stronger sense of belonging across the community.
What the New Funding Will Support
Thanks to The National Lottery Community Fund, we can now expand our weekly activities and introduce new services shaped by local need. Over the coming months, the hub will grow to include:
- Messy play for young children
- A community kitchen and café
- Social groups for all ages
- An enhanced information and support hub
This investment will help us support more residents, offer more consistent weekly activities, and strengthen the role of Destination Ball Hill as a welcoming, accessible place for everyone.
A Win for the Whole Community
We would like to extend a heartfelt thankâyou to everyone who has supported Destination Ball Hill so far â from volunteers and partners to residents who take part in our activities. This funding is not just a milestone for our organisation, but a win for the entire Ball Hill community.
We canât wait to continue building a vibrant, connected neighbourhood together.
Sangam Group Secures Funding
The Sangam Group, a longâstanding organisation supporting South Asian elders in Coventry, is celebrating a successful funding award made possible through guidance from the Community Resilience Team (CRT) at Coventry City Council.
As the group has continued to grow, they recognised the need for additional financial support to sustain their valued activities. Reaching out to the CRT for advice, they were guided by an officer who met with the group and recommended applying to the National Lottery for two years of fundingâa recently available option designed to help community organisations plan with greater confidence.
We are delighted to share that the Sangam Groupâs application was successful. They have been awarded ÂŁ7,620, covering essential costs including room hire, transport, and refreshments, ensuring their members can continue to come together in a safe, accessible, and welcoming environment.
This funding will help the Sangam Group maintain the activities and social connections that are so vital to the wellbeing of local elders. It also highlights the ongoing partnership between community groups and the Community Resilience Team in strengthening neighbourhood support across the city.

Each young person will also be matched with a trained peer mentorâsomeone who understands their journey and offers guidance with schoolwork, joining activities, or simply navigating life in a new community.
Once a month, weâll bring families, neighbours, and young people together for community celebrations filled with food, music, and shared stories.
This project was shaped directly by the voices of local young people and their families, who told us they need safe spaces, connection, and help overcoming language barriers. Thanks to funding support from the Community Resilience Team National leading to the Lottery awarding ÂŁ19,712, weâre ready to build those bridgesâand help every young person feel seen, valued, and truly at homeâ.
Highland Road Allotment Hub Officially Opens!
After months of planning and hard work, the Highland Road allotment groupâs vision for a community hub has become a reality. Back in early 2025, the group approached the Community Resilience Team for support in securing funding to create a dedicated space for local residents. Thanks to a successful bid to the National Lottery Awards for All small grants fund, ÂŁ9,000 was awarded to bring this project to life.
Throughout the summer, volunteers from the allotment group worked tirelessly to assemble the hub, transforming the site into a welcoming space for community activities and events. On October 19th, 2025, the hub was officially opened by Stefan Overson from the Community Resilience Team, marking a proud moment for everyone involved.
The new hub will serve as a focal point for local engagement, offering opportunities for social connection, skill-sharing, and resilience-building within the community.

Coventry Music museum reaches landmark
A huge congratulations to the Coventry Music Museum, which has just celebrated a major milestoneâwelcoming its 50,000th visitor!
On Sunday 19th October, the Sampson family from Surrey became part of the museumâs history when family member Chris walked through the doors and became the landmark visitor. To mark the occasion, the family received a special gift bag filled with books, vinyl, and a unique pendant granting them free lifetime access to the museum.
Chris shared their surprise:
âI couldn't quite believe itâI thought it was a joke at first! Caroline has visited before, and weâll definitely be coming back. It always feels great to come in. Thank you so much!â
Museum curator Pete Chambers reflected on the achievement:
âThis is such an achievement. Weâve brought so many people into our city, and many support the local shops and businesses on Ball Hill. Considering we charge admission and only open four days a week, itâs a great score. I keep imagining 50,000 people filling the stands at the CBS Arenaâit would be a full house, plus another 13,000 in the car parks! Huge thanks to our volunteers, board, and every one of our 50,000 amazing visitors.â

New Community Partnership Launches to Support Health, Wellbeing and Opportunities in Coventry
A new partnership between the John White Community Centre and Creative Kindness has been launched to improve health, wellbeing and social opportunities for local people.
Backed by ÂŁ151,000 of funding over three years from The National Lottery Community Fund, the project has been developed with the support of Coventry City Council, who brought the partners together and assisted with bid writing.
The initiative aims to empower people living in local communities to take charge of their own health and wellbeing, while also offering volunteering opportunities that build confidence, skills, and a stronger sense of belonging.
As part of the project:
- The John White Community Centre will provide training and practical support to Creative Kindness leaders, enabling them to expand their work and meet growing community needs.
- The centre will also integrate around 15 local groups and services, ensuring residents have seamless access to advice, activities, and support.
- A social prescriber from Sowe Valley PCN will now be based at the John White Community Centre two days a week, working closely with a newly appointed project coordinator from September to connect people with the right opportunities and services.
Gill Blythe, from the John White Community Centre and daughter of John White, after whom the centre is named, said "We are so proud to be part of this partnership and to see the John White Centre at the heart of such important work. My father was passionate about supporting local people and creating opportunities within the community, and this project truly reflects that vision. By working together, we can help people feel more connected, supported, and confident in managing their health and wellbeing."
Dr Allison Duggal, Director of Public Health and Well-being for Coventry City Council said âI am really pleased that my officers have been able to support the creation of such an exciting community initiative. This initiative is a perfect example of our shared working on neighbourhood health, and I cannot wait to hear from the people this helps to support their health and wellbeing.â
Cllr Kamran Caan, Cabinet Member for Public Health and Sport said âThis is an exciting venture and one I am pleased to support. Good health is so much more than GP appointments and hospital follow ups. It is projects like this which really help to keep people healthy and happy, and I am so glad Public Health officers have worked so hard with partners to establish itâ.
The project will begin rolling out in September, with local people, encouraged to get involved in activities, volunteering, and support available at the John White Community Centre.

The weekly workshop, which focuses on cycle repair and upskilling, plays a crucial role in boosting participantsâ self-esteem and employability. It offers hands-on training in bike maintenance while fostering a sense of community and purpose among attendees.
Recognising the value of the project, CRT worked closely with the organisation to develop a strong funding application. Their efforts paid off when the group was awarded ÂŁ15,000 over three years from the 29th May 1981 Charitable Trust. The funding will cover volunteer expenses and general running costs, ensuring the workshop can continue to thrive and support local residents. What a brilliant project!.
New Bereavement Support Group Launches at John White Community Centre
The John White Centre is proud to introduce a new Bereavement Support Group, helping local residents find comfort and connection as they navigate lossâthanks to a generous ÂŁ2,000 grant from the Heart of England Foundation, secured with support from the Community Resilience Team.
This warm, welcoming initiative offers a space to share, heal, or simply be among others who understand. Sessions are free of charge, open to everyone, and take place twice a month on Tuesdays from 10:00am to 11:30am at the Centre. Thereâs no need to bookâjust drop in. For details, call 07385 427042.
Th group is run in partnership with the Sowe Valley Primary Care Network Social prescribers, with support from the NHS Compassionate Communities colleagues.
The funding enables partners to offer peer-led support, calming conversation, and moments of reflection for those experiencing bereavement. Itâs a beautiful example of what happens when community spirit meets practical supportâand how funding can spark kindness that lasts.
đ„Ł Saturday Breakfast Club Brings Warmth, Connection, and Support to Local People
Authentic Ministries is putting community at the heart of Coventry weekends with the launch of their Saturday Breakfast Club, now made possible thanks to support from the Community Resilience Team and an incredible ÂŁ19,760 grant from the National Lottery.
Set in their welcoming base on Lamb Street (the former Jesus Centre), the new weekend initiative opens its doors every Saturday from 10am to 1pm and Sunday from 10am to 12pm, providing not just hearty breakfasts and comforting snacks, but a space of kindness and care for homeless individuals, refugees, and asylum seekers.
The funding is going toward more than just mealsâitâs helping upgrade the churchâs hygiene facilities, giving visitors access to clean showers and washing areas right in the heart of the city. Plans are also underway to introduce an internet cafĂ©-style corner, with a #CovConnects application in progress to bring in laptops so guests can get online, reconnect with loved ones, and explore new learning and support opportunities.
âš And the kindness doesnât stop there. Starting in August, Authentic Ministries will roll out a foodbank parcel service, adding another layer of life-changing support under one inclusive roof.
Speaking on behalf of the team, Noel Iradukunda shared, "Both the Authentic Centre Staff and the Authentic Word Ministries church members are excited about this opportunity to positively affect people's lives."
Itâs proof that with community spirit, collaboration, and a little help from the lottery, meaningful change is always on the menu. đł

Intercultural Roots and MakingCulture e.V. unite Coventry and Coburg through art, heritage, and sustainability in the Bridging Cultures project, marking a historic moment for creative collaboration between the UK and Germany.

Coventry-based artist, Intercultural Roots practitioner, and 12-year resident city host Fatima has become the first Coventrian to witness the reconstructed version of one of the world's very first 4-wheeled electric cars, originally developed by inventor Andreas Flocken in 1888 in Coburg, Germany.
The car was meticulously recreated from a single archival photograph by members of Coburg's Historic Innovation Hub, including Professor Gerhard Kampe, Peter Langendorf, and their team â all members of MakingCulture e.V., a German charity dedicated to cultural heritage and innovation.
This historic moment formed part of Bridging Cultures Coventry and Coburg, a flagship initiative by Intercultural Roots for Public Health in collaboration with MakingCulture e.V.. The project promotes cross-border artistic exchange, environmental awareness, and sustainable innovation between the two cities.
Fatima said:
I had the opportunity to visit Coburg for the first time through the Bridging Cultures project. When I joined the EcoGPX Residency a year ago, I thought I would be working with and for local Coventry residents only. Never had I thought it would take me to Bavaria, the birthplace of Prince Albert, where I learned so much about their forward-thinking sustainability efforts. Discovering that both Coburg and Coventry share a passion for automotive heritage and environmental initiatives made me proud to be chosen for this cultural exchange.'
The second phase of the project saw the German collaborators travel to the UK this weekend, where Prof. Kampe, Peter Langendorf, and Coburg-based artist and photographer Liliana Frevel visited Coventry. Their visit included meetings with members of the Coventry Association for International Friendship (CAIF), a guided tour of the city, a guided visit to the Coventry Transport Museum with Paul Maddocks, and participation in multiple artistic workshops hosted throughout the city.
With the combined efforts of Intercultural Roots team (Dr Alex Boyd with Fatima, Issias, Maryam, Wendy, Basma and local Coventry artists) and MakingCulture e.V., the Bridging Cultures Coventry and Coburg project continues to strengthen UKâGermany ties through shared creative practice, cultural dialogue, and environmental responsibility.

CRT Funding Workshop Success
This month the Community Resilience team advertised our funding application training workshops, and we were completely taken by surprise by the number of organisations that wanted to access this. We ended up adding two more training dates both of which is full.
This month we ran two course with a variety of organisations from statutory organisations schools, police, other council officers, to very many voluntary sector organisations. In total 16 organisations accessed this training, to date.
Giving them information and advice on what makes a great project, how to make your project stand out. Some practical advice on how to answer the funding questions, doâs and donât, and tips and knowledge the team have gained over the last few years supporting organisations to access external resources. While also informing organisations what other support the council offers like digital support they can access from #Covconnects
They were very interactive sessions and our team too gained some invaluable knowledge about the amazing projects you are planning over the next year or two.
We will definitely add some more funding workshop dates in the coming months so watch this space!

HOPE Coventry Secures Sport England Movement Fund Grant to Support Dementia-Friendly Activities
Coventry, UK â HOPE Coventry has been awarded funding from the Sport England Movement Fund(External link), a national initiative offering up to ÂŁ15,000 for community-based physical activity projects. The fund is designed to support individuals who face barriers to being active, helping them engage in healthier, more connected lifestyles.
HOPE Coventryâs successful application has enabled them to launch new physical activity sessions at their two Memory Lane CafĂ©s, which support people living with dementia and their carers. These sessions now include dance and yoga, led by professional coaches, and are enhanced with interactive equipment purchased through the grant.
Maddy Wigmore, Fundraising Administrator for HOPEâs Good Neighbours project, praised the application process:
âWe found it straightforward and flexible. It was great to have the opportunity to discuss our ideas with Sport England and Think Active before submitting.â
The impact has already been felt. HOPE staff and volunteers report that participants are experiencing improved mental stimulation, stronger social bonds, and a renewed sense of joy through movement. The sessions are not only promoting physical health but also stimulating positive memories and emotional well-being.
