Coventry City Council are working on exciting plans to improve and deliver a better visitor offer for St Mary’s Guildhall.

We know that improvements are needed to make sure that the 14th Century Guildhall can deliver a first-class offer to visitors, businesses and the local community. It’s a significant building in the city’s history and the improvements will protect the city’s heritage for local people. It is a jewel in the city’s crown and by delivering improvements we will be able to do this beautiful and historic building justice.

Thanks to The National Lottery players, £78,000 has already been secured to develop a Round Two National Lottery Heritage Fund application, and if successful, a further £1.76m could be available from the Heritage Fund.

The proposals would mean that the Guildhall – historically the former Headquarters of the Council – is transformed into a sustainable business while at the same time telling the stories of its fascinating history and making it a visitor experience that will be attractive to local people and tourists during the city’s year as UK City of Culture and beyond.

Plans to restore and conserve the medieval kitchen, restoration of the original approach to the Great Hall, improving visitor access, enhancing the interpretation of the historic tapestry and the creation of a public viewing gallery are included in the plans, but to help us develop ideas further, we want to know what you think.

Please complete the survey and join the discussion below to let us know your thoughts. The survey closes on Wednesday 22 July.

We have also organised an online focus group at on Thursday 23 July 2020 between 6.30pm and 7.45pm to find out in more detail what people think of the proposals and capture ideas for what could be done to improve the visitor offer.
