Please see the updated consultation undertaken in 2021 for further information on this proposal, comments added to the 2020 consultation will still be considered

We have an opportunity to use the vacant education site at the former Woodlands School site to house the whole of Woodfield School - both primary and secondary.

Woodfield School is currently split across two sites - primary and secondary. Moving the Woodfield school to the Woodlands site would relocate both primary and secondary onto a shared site with separate buildings. Doing this would help the school to share more resources as well as staffing models. It would also expand the school, which would make sure more children can get a high quality education.

Coventry has a good range of specialist school provision and so very few Coventry children have to attend schools outside of the city. We need to work hard to make sure this stays true. However, a recent evidenced growth in need has placed a level of demand on the special school system that is more than what we can currently cater for. Whilst the recent expansion and relocation of Tiverton Special School has helped a lot in the primary sector for children with generic learning difficulties, we still need to build capacity to support:

  • Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) growth across all age ranges;
  • Increased demand for secondary/post-16 special school places for generic learning difficulties;
  • Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) growth across all age ranges.

This project will provide the high-quality places required for SEMH growth.

Moving the school to the Woodlands site will need more money than is available in the education capital budget, and so it is proposed to sell the current Woodfield sites to facilitate the move to Woodlands.
