WHAT IS A TINY FOREST?

A Tiny Forest is a dense and fast-growing woodland made up of native trees, planted in an area the size of a tennis court. It uses the Miyawaki method of planting and is being created for the whole community to use and enjoy.

HOW MANY TINY FORESTS WILL BE PLANTED IN COVENTRY?

The Tiny Forests are being planted by the Coventry City Council in partnership with Earthwatch Europe and Citizen Housing.

Coventry City Council in partnership with Citizen Housing has identified 6 sites that are suitable for Tiny Forests:

Marnhull Close, Foresters Road, Nickson Road, Aldrich Avenue, Whitley Common, Dawlish Drive.

We are starting with Marnhull Close and Whitley Common.

WHO IS FUNDING THIS PROJECT?

This project has been funded by the Forestry Commission through the Local Authority Treescapes Fund, alongside additional match funders.

WHAT ARE THE BENIFITS OF A TINY FOREST

Urban forests are very important for climate adaptation. Trees retain water, increase local water storage, cool the local environment and take up carbon dioxide.

Tiny Forests support rich wildlife and are can attract over 500 animal and plant species within the first 3 years. The whole community can use the Tiny Forest as a place to learn, play and enjoy nature.

HOW TO GET INVOLVED?

Coventry City Council are seeking the views of local communities surrounding the proposed locations to gain their insights of the local area and to further understand their thoughts on the project. There will be opportunity for the community to provide input into the project and input to the to design some of the aspects of the Tiny Forests design.
