Apply Now! Research Ambassadors and Research Capacity Building Grant for Voluntary Sector Organisations

Coventry HDRC are pleased to invite voluntary sector organisations to apply for a new funding opportunity designed to strengthen research engagement and capacity across the sector. This initiative will support the creation of a Research Ambassador role within your organisation - an individual who will champion research, foster partnerships, and help embed a culture of evidence-informed practice.

In addition to funding for the ambassador role, successful applicants will receive a supplementary grant to support broader efforts to build research capacity. This could include staff training, working with residents and communities to develop research ideas, designing systems for using and sharing research, or creating opportunities for collaboration with academic or community research partners. This is a unique opportunity to shape the future of your organisation’s work through stronger connections to research and evidence. We welcome applications from organisations of all sizes and with varying levels of research experience.

What is Coventry HDRC?

Coventry Health Determinants Research Collaboration (HDRC) is a National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) funded initiative which aims to improve the use of research to identify evidence-based solutions to the issues negatively impacting the health of Coventry's communities and ultimately causing health inequalities. We are striving to boost the capacity and skills for research in Coventry focusing on the broader factors influencing health, such as jobs, homes, public transport, green spaces and early years. These factors are known as the wider determinants of health. Coventry City Council is one of 30 UK local authorities funded to set up an HDRC. This builds on Coventry’s strong record of working across sectors and involves partners including the University of Warwick, Coventry University, University College London, local NHS Trusts, the voluntary sector, and local communities.

How to Apply?

The application window has opened and will run to Monday 15th September 2025 at 11:59pm. Full details about the opportunity, including eligibility criteria and guidance on how to apply, can be found on the HDRC website.

If you would like to discuss this opportunity or explore ideas with our team, please don’t hesitate to get in touch at CoventryHDRC@coventry.gov.uk

To support the launch of the scheme, we will be hosting some online information sessions. These sessions will cover both the application process and grant terms but also provide more information about the research ambassador role itself and what it involves. The provisional dates for the webinars are:

Tuesday 2 September - 3-3:30pm

Monday 8 September  - 10-10:30am

To book your place, please email us at CoventryHDRC@coventry.gov.uk(External link)
