Childhood vaccinations are a vital health priority to protect against a number of diseases such as measles. Getting vaccinated at the time the vaccine is due means that the individual will have protection against those diseases, reducing their risk of harm and the potential spread of disease.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) recommends that at least 95% of children are immunised against vaccine-preventable diseases to reach herd immunity. Herd immunity describes how a population is protected from a disease after vaccination by stopping the infection being transmitted between people. In this way people who cannot be vaccinated for health reasons can be protected.

GP surgeries are open and are keen to vaccinate children, they have taken steps to ensure that the practice is safe during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Data demonstrates that vaccination levels within children looked after by Coventry City Council have not met the 95% target within the 2014/15 – 2019/20 timeframe. At end of year 2019/20 86% of the cohort had a fully vaccinated status.

We are seeking your support to understand how we can increase the fully vaccinated status of our Looked After Children by answering a few short questions.

Please use the survey tool below to take part.

The closing date for this survey is 16th December 2020.

We are currently auditing a random sample of records of those children not fully vaccinated and may contact you to discuss these cases in the next few weeks.

If you have any questions about vaccinations please contact jane.craig@coventry.gov.uk.
