Background

Under Section 14 of the Education Act 1996, Coventry City Council has a statutory duty to ensure sufficient school places and fair, appropriate access to education for all. The council’s role is to plan, commission, and organise school places in a way that raises standards, manages supply and demand, and creates a diverse infrastructure.

To make the best use of education facilities and increase inclusion for pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities, Coventry City Council is developing schemes to include SEND facilities within mainstream schools and expand capacity.

Have your say

The council have created a survey to gather your views on the proposed ERP at John Shelton Primary School which provides specialist education towards a broad spectrum of needs. This proposed project will help the Local Authority to meet the rising demand for specialist places in the city. The proposed ERP will include a sensory area, one class base centre, and access to a suitable external environment for exploration, learning and play. The ERP will provide for 10 children who have an Educational Health Care Plan (EHCPs), to support children with significant cognitive and language delay.

This consultation has been developed to ensure the council carries out open and fair communications with stakeholders as part of the process being undertaken for this work. The Local Authority has a statutory duty to consult under the Government's guidelines for changes to maintained schools. The information that you share as part of this consultation will be fed back and taken into consideration for this project.
