The start of a new school term is always exciting - but when it's the transition into "big school" - a child's very first school term, it can feel a little daunting.
Whether you're a parent, grandparent or family member with child who is about to start at school, we know that it can feel like a very big step.
To help you with that step, we have assembled a panel of professionals with early years knowledge and experience to answer any questions you may have or signpost you to areas for further support.
At the bottom of the page will be a box where you can type in any question to us you might have. When asking the question, you need to pop in your email address (which won't be shown to anybody), and make a username (which can be anything you are comfortable being known by online).
The panel will review the questions twice a week and respond by publishing the question asked and the response, or contact you as an individual to respond, if your question is more personal. We aim to respond to your questions within three working days.
The two-week Question and Answer panel will run from 21st July to the 5th August 2020
Generally, being ready to learn at school means
having strong social skills
can cope emotionally with being separated from their parents or carers
are relatively independent in their own personal care
have a curiosity about the world and a desire to learn.
You can also contact your child’s new school with any specific questions related to the School and its organisation.
The Q+A has now concluded, but keep an eye out for future opportunities to talk about school readiness.

Hello Elizabeth,
Thank you for your question. To find your child a high quality nursery, pre-school or childminder, you will find a range of childcare options by visiting our Coventry Family Information Directory. Please click on the link below:
The Directory can be used to find childcare providers in the particular area you are looking for and you will be able to read Ofsted reports from the site, as we are unable to make specific recommendations in relation to individual childcare providers. By doing this, you should be able to create a short list of options and then identify one specific nursery, pre-school or childminder which best suits your child.
If after using the Coventry Family Information Directory you are still unable to find a suitable childcare option, please contact a member of the early years team via email at EYCentral@coventry.gov.uk or telephone: 024 7697 5451 and the Early Years Team will provide you with support.
