For the first time, the 2014 Care Act recognised carers in law, giving them legal rights to assessment and support, in the same way as those they care for.

Local authorities need to identify carers in their area, and provide or arrange help, support and information to improve their own wellbeing, as well as the wellbeing of the people they care for.

In Coventry, as well as Adult Social Care we have a service that provides specialist support to family carers called Carers Trust Heart of England, you can find more information about them here. They provide various support and work to transform the lives of unpaid carers through collaboration, influence, evidence and innovation.

The service offers:

  • Information and advice
  • 1:1 support both virtually and face to face
  • Carers Assessments
  • Training both group and bespoke
  • Support with the use of technology, adaptations and appliances
  • The Carers Response and Emergency Support Service (CRESS)
  • Planning for the future and an emergency
  • Group-Based Support (currently both virtual & face to face)
  • On-going events, workshops and creative sessions
  • Access to counselling and emotional support
  • Access to grants & direct payments
  • Working Carers Support
  • Outreach Support at UHCW
  • Young Carers Project
  • Carers Voice (a service supporting carers to improve local services).

    We are keen to understand the role unpaid carers are undertaking, their needs, challenges, whether they are able to access the services on offer and any barriers to fulfilling their role.

    The information you provide will help us understand more about who is being cared for and the wellbeing of carers and may be used to improve services.
