City Centre Support for People Struggling with Addiction

The Community Resilience Team has been working closely with Dynamo project over the past few months to help them access external funding for their much-needed project. This month they heard they were successful and have just been awarded £19,800 from the National Lottery.

This funding is being used by them to offer an outreach and drop-in support service for individuals in need of day rehabilitation (dayhab) services. It includes a structured detoxification program with medical oversight, addressing the increasing demand locally.

Dynamo commented "To receive this grant is truly amazing and the difference it will make too many people's lives cannot be put into words. we want to say a huge thank you to all our supporters, the National Lottery and Shaun from Coventry City Council who supported us with the bid, you done us proud mate"

Their new project will include dayhab activities such as workshops on addiction education, relapse prevention, coping strategies and 1-2-1 counselling to address mental health and addiction challenges. Workshops for families are also being provided with counselling to rebuild trust as part of the project.

This funding will support 70 individual and their families with intensive support at this amazing project.



CRT Funding Workshop Success

This month the Community Resilience team advertised our funding application training workshops, and we were completely taken by surprise by the number of organisations that wanted to access this. We ended up adding two more training dates both of which is full.

This month we ran two course with a variety of organisations from statutory organisations schools, police, other council officers, to very many voluntary sector organisations. In total 16 organisations accessed this training, to date.

Giving them information and advice on what makes a great project, how to make your project stand out. Some practical advice on how to answer the funding questions, do’s and don’t, and tips and knowledge the team have gained over the last few years supporting organisations to access external resources. While also informing organisations what other support the council offers like digital support they can access from #Covconnects

They were very interactive sessions and our team too gained some invaluable knowledge about the amazing projects you are planning over the next year or two.

We will definitely add some more funding workshop dates in the coming months so watch this space!

HOPE Coventry Secures Sport England Movement Fund Grant to Support Dementia-Friendly Activities

Coventry, UK — HOPE Coventry has been awarded funding from the Sport England Movement Fund, a national initiative offering up to £15,000 for community-based physical activity projects. The fund is designed to support individuals who face barriers to being active, helping them engage in healthier, more connected lifestyles.

HOPE Coventry’s successful application has enabled them to launch new physical activity sessions at their two Memory Lane Cafés, which support people living with dementia and their carers. These sessions now include dance and yoga, led by professional coaches, and are enhanced with interactive equipment purchased through the grant.

Maddy Wigmore, Fundraising Administrator for HOPE’s Good Neighbours project, praised the application process:

“We found it straightforward and flexible. It was great to have the opportunity to discuss our ideas with Sport England and Think Active before submitting.”

The impact has already been felt. HOPE staff and volunteers report that participants are experiencing improved mental stimulation, stronger social bonds, and a renewed sense of joy through movement. The sessions are not only promoting physical health but also stimulating positive memories and emotional well-being.

    Solo Group Valentines Dance

    Coventry Solo Group have put some of their £8000 Awards for All grant to good use on their Valentine's Day dance. The Community Resilience Team guided the group through the process and supported them with writing and submitting the application.

    Coventry Solo Group have provided a place of friendship and support to isolated people for over 50 years. Their members are alone following bereavement, divorce, social anxiety, or otherwise. They meet weekly for conversation, entertainment and refreshments. They also run additional dedicated theme nights throughout the year.

    Oasis Community Hub & Café

    Oasis Community hub & café have worked with the Community Resilience Team to secure a £1000 donation from Coventry's General Charities. This has gone towards refurbishing their new community café location.

    The Oasis Community Hub & Café has been a focal point of the Spon End and wider community for the last 5 years. They have provided a safe, warm and inclusive space by offering good and inexpensive food & drinks, friendly conversation, and activities to help increase confidence & make friends.

    This month was International Day of Persons with Disabilities


    The UN has marked the International Day of Persons with Disabilities on 3rd December since 1992, to spread the word on disability issues and mobilise support for the dignity, rights, and well-being of persons with disabilities.

    This month we celebrated International Men's Day

    The Willenhall Men's Support Group have been providing a safe space for men who are isolated or struggle with their mental or physical health for the last 12 months.
    The group meets once a week, to chat and support each other alongside tea and biscuits, with a pizza evening once a month. Each month members take turns creating a quiz, allowing them to focus on their passions and interests.     St Francis of Assisi’s food hub has welcomed much needed support from Local Construction Company GF Tomlinson!

    St Francis of Assisi runs in the heart of the community in Radford offering a wide range of services and support to the local community such as employment support, volunteering, ESOL and one of their most successful offers of support in their weekly food hub.

    Local Developer Support Food Hub in need!

    Local developers Bowmer and Kirkland and their contractors MFP Linings Ltd have kindly donated bags of dried food and goods to the Tile Hill Food Hub run by the Seventh-Day Adventist Church after an urgent call for donations.

    The food hub was in need of donations due to an increase in families needing to access the food hub. To help them out, the Community Resilience Team reached out to their contacts at Bowmer and Kirkland’s to see if they could help as part of their social value commitment to the city.

    The Indian Community Centre receiving funding from the Community Recovery and Support Grant

    The Indian Community Centre based in Foleshill, received £1,590 of funding from the from the Community Resilience Team's Community Recovery and Support Grant.

    The centre was in need of support post lock down for one of the daytime activities that uses the space several days a week. Since lockdown they had struggled getting some service users to come back to their pre-lockdown activities, this had impacted their finances to run the group with fewer members attending and paying a small fee.     Lenton’s Lane Baptist Church receives funding from the Recovery and Support Grant and Severn Trent!

    Lenton’s Lane Baptist Church is situated in the Northeast of the city and lies within the Longford Ward. The Community Resilience Team (CRT) initially contacted the church during the Covid19 lockdown period but were told it was closed until things returned to normal, but they would appreciate support once normality returned as they had ideas for projects they would like to run.

    Local charity Baby Godiva's growing success after successful funding opportunities and support from the team!

    Over the last 18 months the Community Resilience Team have been supporting a local charity called Baby Godiva. The charity provides free of charge, pre-loved and new nursery items and consumables to families living in poverty.

    Since the charity’s formation in 2019 it has helped 1,834 families with over 6,000 items, and the CRT has supported them in applying to a variety of funders.     Godiva Sisters membership thriving after being awarded the Community Recovery and Support Grant

    The Community Resilience team have recently helped the Godiva Sisters apply to the Community Recovery and Support Grant so they could get some support for their group following the pandemic. The Godiva Sisters were formed twenty years ago and is made up of local women from all faiths and cultures who meet to portray characters both ancient and modern.
