Coventry Food Network Christmas Campaign 2024

A huge thank you to everyone who has supported this year's Coventry Food Network Christmas campaign. Local businesses and staff have collected much needed food donations which have been given to Coventry Food Network organisations.

Here's a shout out to some local organisations who have worked with the Community Resilience Team to support this year's campaign.



Capita support Feeding Coventry at Foleshill Community Centre

Elena Frangu and Capita staff was one of the first organisations to offer their help with the Coventry Food Network Christmas campaign.

They collected approximately £400 worth of food for Feeding Coventry at Foleshill Community Centre which will be used to support some of the most vulnerable families in Foleshill.

Capita said "We are proud to support the Coventry Food Network Christmas campaign and contribute to such a meaningful cause. We believe in giving back to the community and are committed to supporting charitable initiatives that make a real difference. It’s our privilege to play a part in helping those in need, especially during the festive season."



McLaren Construction support Canley Food Hub with donations this Christmas

McLaren Construction have been supporting Canley Food Hub with donations this Christmas. They collected approximately £400 worth of food an other essentials to support people in need.

Charlotte Green from McLaren Construction said "It has been an absolute pleasure to get involved in supporting Canley Food Hub. McLaren would like to also thank DP Interiors Ltd, Hartle Ltd & Midland Decorators Ltd in joining in with providing food donations for Canley Food Hub. In total we have all collected over £400 worth of food and other essential items. We all truly hope this helps families locally over the next few months".

Julie Hughes from Canley Community Centre said "On behalf of Canley Food Hub, we would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to McLaren Construction for their incredibly generous donation. This contribution will go a long way in supporting our mission to provide for those in need within our community in CV4 and CV5, particularly as we approach the festive season. Your kindness and support are making a meaningful difference, and we are truly grateful for your partnership in helping us make Christmas a little brighter for many of the families in Canley.

Thank you also for the surprise Hamper. We added it as an extra prize to our Christmas Raffle and the winner was thrilled!”



Staff based at One Friargate donated food to The Hope Centre Mosaic Church in Hillfields

A donation box was placed in One Friargate reception for Coventry City Council staff and other organisations based in the building to donate food items.

Approximately £650 worth off food was donated to The Hope Centre Mosaic Church in Hillfields. Staff were thrilled as this will support many vulnerable people this Christmas.




Severn Trent Staff collect donations for Henley Green Grub Hub

Once again, Severn Trent have collected for the Coventry Food Network Christmas campaign. The Community Resilience Team would like to thank Kim Clark and colleagues for their donations which has been given to Henley Green Grub Hub.

Dianne Williams from the Grub Hub said, “Severn Trent staff have always been generous and we really do appreciate their support, particularly this time of year when families need us most.”





Deeley Construction supporting Stoke Heath Community Centre

Deeley Construction has once again demonstrated its incredible support for local community organisations in Coventry. Their generous food donation to Stoke Heath Community Centre is very much appreciated. Deeley Construction staff have made a difference yet again—thank you!

Kim White, Stoke Heath Community Centre Manager, said "We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to Deeley Construction for their generous food donations to Stoke Heath Community Centre as part of the Coventry Food Network Christmas campaign. This Christmas season can be particularly challenging for struggling families, and your support has made a significant difference.

    Asian Blind Association Receives Awards For All Grant to Continue Community Support

    The Community Resilience Team has helped the Asian Blind Association secure £10,000 in funding from the National Lottery. This funding will support the association's efforts to continue their vital work in Coventry, providing support to blind and partially sighted people and their caregivers.

    The Roma Project - Secures funding for next 3 years

    The Community Resilience Team worked with the Roma Project to develop a bid which secured almost £400,000 from the National Lottery’s Reaching Communities Fund. The project based at Broad Street Meeting Hall in Foleshill, will use this funding to continue their much needed advice service for the next 3 years, it will also help them to introduce specialist immigration sessions, cost of living support and the provision of a warm welcome space that is open to all during the colder months.     Spotlight on Wild Earth Group

    Wild Earth is a not-for-profit social enterprise in the Coventry, committed to helping people find positive destinations by connecting people with nature. Their aim is to reduce isolation and promote development by connecting people with nature and their own local environment and communities.

    Wild Earth is delighted to share the good news that they have secured £16,670 from the Severn Trent Community Fund. The grant will help with core running costs to ensure continued support to children, young people and vulnerable adults in the community through nature based therapeutic activities.

    Baby Godiva gets a helping hand from England Rugby International, Coutney Lawes

    In November England Rugby International, Courtney Lawes, visited the charity ‘Baby Godiva’ to discuss the work they do. He visited the charity along with representatives from the ‘Save The Children’ charity.     Food kindly donated by Severn Trent Water employees

    Over the last few weeks leading to Christmas staff at Severn Trent Water Coventry’s Head Quarters have been collecting food to help Coventry residents struggling with rising costs.

    FC Sensory - Blind & Visually Impaired Football Club in Coventry

    In October 2022 Dave Allcock was registered blind, his football team couldn't make the necessary adjustments which led to Dave having to leave his football team, impacting his physical and mental wellbeing. Dave looked for football groups for blind and visually impaired people, but found the nearest club was over a 45 minute drive away. Refusing to be defeated, Dave supported by Bernie Swain, decided to set up their own football group in Coventry for people with vision impairments.

    Please Support Your Local Food Hub or Food Bank – Support Coventry People in Need this Christmas.

    Food hubs and food banks across Coventry are struggling to cope with an increase in demand due to the cost-of-living crisis. The number of people in need has hugely increased whilst donations to these charities have fallen.

    Walking Football Group

    Walking football is a great way to stay active and socialise with others. One such group is the Bedworth and District Walking Football Group, run by Russ Watkin, from the Alan Higgs Centre in Coventry.

    The club meets three times a week and has around 86 members and numbers continue to increase. The players are aged 50+, and all share a passion for the sport. Many members of the group have recovered from injuries that would normally have ended their playing days, but walking football is played at walking pace, with players not allowed to run. One...     Rainbow Saheli Group

    The Community Resilience Team had great pleasure in being invited to the Rainbow Saheli group’s India Independence Day celebration event. The event took place in Sacred Heart Church community space and was attended by Local Councillors and the Lord Mayor.

    Urban Goodies CIC

    Urban Goodies is a Community Interest Company set up to alleviate food poverty, provide nutritional meals and tackle disadvantage in the community. They provide a welcoming safe space at local community centres, by providing lunches, ready meals, community fridge and cookery classes.
