  My name is Hugues Yowa, and I represent Eagle Nation, a community organisation dedicated to providing sports activities for children and young people in Coventry.

  Last year, we ran a project called "The Change," which offered free basketball and football sessions to young people—Basketball after school on Thursdays and football training on Saturday mornings.   These activities allowed us to engage with young people who are often at risk of isolation, anti-social behaviour, or violence. We believe that most young people are not inherently violent; instead, they are shaped by difficult circumstances such as unstable home environments, lack of guidance, or socio-economic hardships.

  This is why Eagle Nation is committed not only to supporting children and young people, but also working closely with parents. We see the need for more dialogue, more family-focused activities, and more opportunities to keep young people engaged in a positive way.

  The biggest barrier we face in expanding this vital work is a lack of funding. With the right support, we can do even more to reduce violence, improve well-being, and build a stronger, safer community for all.

  Free Funding Application Training Workshop

  Community Resilience Team, will be running a funding application training workshop on Thursday 5th June 11:30am to 14:30pm at Friargate Station Square, Coventry CV1 2GN.

  Get some expert advice on the do's and don'ts when applying for funding. Come and talk to the team about your ideas and get some 1-2-1 practical advice on your application.

  While also getting access to local JSNA data that will show the demographics of your community and evidence why your project idea is needed. You will also be given information on local public and private organisations or teams that may be able to support any new project.

  New free training opportunity – Digital health literacy workshops

  #CovConnects, the Council’s digital inclusion programme, has partnered with the University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire (UHCW) to hold free digital health literacy workshops for community organisations that focus around supporting others to feel confident when it comes to understanding the online world through the lens of health.

  Content covered:

  • An introduction to digital literacy through the scope of health
  • Social media and health
  • How low digital literacy can harm
  • How community organisations can help

  Attending organisations will be gifted a £50 donation! This donation is available on a first come first serve basis, so please do get in touch!

  Octavius and Coventry City Council Collaborate to Inspire Young Minds

  Octavius, a transport solutions provider, got in touch with Community Resilience Team to provide some social value work in communities. They collaborated with Coventry City Council to donate 20 copies of the educational storybook "Sammi on Site." Co-written by Octavius' Site Manager, the book aims to ignite curiosity about the built environment and the role of engineering in shaping our world.

  It’s estimated that there’s some 1.5m people above the age of 16 currently unemployed across the UK, with many of those across the Midlands.

  
  

  
  

  Severn Trent’s commitment to change that statistic is seeing it create opportunities to connect people to jobs in Coventry.

  
  

  
  

  Working with Coventry City Council, the company is bringing back it’s Big Boost for Coventry – where it promises jobs, skills, training and work opportunities for those in the city and beyond.

  
  

  
  

  The company is to be joined by employers such as British Army, EON, National Gas, Warwickshire Police, NHS and more – following the success of its first event that saw over 500 people through the doors at the Transport Museum.

  
  

  
  

  The event, that’s free to enter and will take place on Thursday 6th March 2025 – between 10am and 2pm at Coventry Transport Museum.

  
  

  
  

  As well as employers with live jobs, there’s free cv workshops, virtual reality interview practice, and other employability training and other support available, such as help with water bills and cost of living support.

  
  

  
  

  Councillor Dr Kindy Sandhu, Cabinet Member for Education and Skills said: “It’s fantastic that Severn Trent want to bring another jobs fair back to the city. The last event was a huge success, so we hope to build on that for 2025. We want to make sure our residents are equipped with the right skills to go onto pursue future careers in and around the city.   Adam Stevens, Societal Programme Officer, at Severn Trent said: “Our first event in Coventry was hugely successful, so we had to plan and bring back another session quickly to bring more opportunities to the city. We’re a big employer in Coventry and know our responsibility in creating opportunities and connecting people to them.   For over 18 months, the Tile Hill Support Hub has been a vital resource for the local community, offering a range of services and advice through monthly activities. This initiative, held at St Oswald’s Church, provides essential support from organisations such as Job Shop, Citizen Housing, and various benefits and health advisors.

  Recognizing a gap in their services, St Oswald’s identified the need for assistance with online assessments and form completion. The Tile Hill Support Hub is open to all local residents and operates on the first Friday of every month from 10 AM to 12 PM at St Oswald’s Church on Jardine Crescent.

  If you live in Tile Hill and need help or advice, don’t hesitate to drop by. The support is free, and the community is here to help you.

  CRASAC have launched a new therapeutic services offer

  New service and some changes to the eligibility criteria:

  • The waiting list for Therapeutic services for people aged 13+ has now re-opened.
  • All referrals will be contacted for an assessment within a month.
  • People wanting to access these services will be invited to a 'Welcome to CRASAC session', where the services on offer will be explained.
  • Clients will then be able to access a range of support including the Thrive Project (an 8 week closed group) and 1-1 counselling.
  • We will be expanding this offer throughout 2025 (subject to funding).

  Points to note:

  • There remains a long wait for 1-1 counselling.
  • Due to demands/lack of capacity, referrals from outside of Coventry will not be accepted (you will be able to enter a postcode into the system which will let you know if you are within our area).
  • The ISVA service remains open and unaffected by these changes.
  • Referrals for the under 13's counselling remains open and unaffected by these changes

  The NHS will be delivering winter vaccine pop-up clinics in Coventry City Centre for people who are eligible for the flu and COVID-19 vaccines this winter. They will provide an opportunity for those who have been unable to see their GP or attend a pharmacy to get the vaccines. The vaccinations will only be available to those who are eligible through the NHS(External link).

  This two-hour online workshop will look at what domestic abuse is, who it impacts and what interventions are available for those who harm whilst prioritising the safety of those at risk. Choose to Change is a Coventry based service offering both group and one to one interventions for those engaging in harmful behaviours as well as an integrated service prioritising the safety and well-being of victims and their children which runs parallel for the duration of the group.
