What are the benefits of the scheme?

By reducing speeds, this scheme aims to reduce collisions and make the area safer for drivers, cyclists and pedestrians. With the traffic speed reduced, the roads should be safer, which in turn should encourage more cycling and walking. There will also be better crossing facilities for pedestrians, which will offer further encouragement.

What are speed cushions and why are they being used?

Speed cushions are a different type of road hump. They do not stretch across the whole width of the road and are usually placed in twos or threes. This difference is why we're using them. The way these cushions are made means that larger vehicles can straddle them, thereby not causing as much noise when they go over them. So, by using cushions, any noise disturbance should be kept low.

Why are you putting raised speed tables on Jubilee Crescent and the zebra crossing on Cheveral Avenue?

By raising the road, like a road hump, at these crossing points will mean vehicles have to slow down to drive over them. This will reduce traffic speeds thereby making it safer for pedestrians and drivers. This speed table will also provide a level crossing point, which is better for people with pushchairs or mobility scooters as they won't have to go up and down a kerb

Why is there not a new Zebra or Puffin Crossing on Cheveral Avenue?

Due to the number of private driveways along here, the only possible place for a new crossing was outside the shops in between Telfer Road and Villa Road. However, to put zebra crossing there would mean getting rid of the parking bays, which we know are well used. Instead we will provide pedestrian dropped kerbs at either end of the shops.
