After several years of expanding primary schools across the city, we have recently seen reducing birth rates and lower demand for places in reception at primary school. This trend is forecast to continue. Where schools have high numbers of spare places this creates financial difficulties for the schools. The proposed reductions are to help to keep enough spaces to allow for parental choice in the city (5%), and at the same time to make sure that we continue to have our high level of good and outstanding primary schools in the city.

Coventry City Council is proposing to reduce the Published Admissions Number for community primary schools as listed in the table below starting in September 2022.

School NameCurrent NumberProposed Number
Coundon Primary9060

The reductions will apply to Reception in 2022 and for each year after this. The size of all higher year groups in the school are expected to remain unchanged whilst children progress through the school.

Please read the attached consultation information document for further details and then complete our short survey to add your views.

The consultation period will be from 25th November 2020 to 6th January 2021.
