What is SEND Information, Advice and Support Service?

The service offers impartial information, advice and support to:

• parents/carers,

• children and young people (0-25)

Our independently trained staff help explain Special Educational Needs, Disability or exclusion processes and procedures in straight forward language, so you know what to expect and what part you can play in your/your child’s education.

We provide accurate, unbiased information to build your confidence and help you make informed decisions.

We also provide a variety of ways to get involved;

  • Information sessions on a variety of subjects around SEND, normally with guest speakers/professionals
  • Drop-in sessions at community venues
  • Informal coffee mornings for parents to meet other parents, relax and learn together.

Your service, Your views

We are also keen for chlidren, young people and their families to shape the way the service works as much as possible, to ensure that it meets the needs of Coventry residents.

If you have an idea that you think can improve the SEND IASS, let us know! Previous suggestions, such as holding drop in sessions at the Family Hubs, or having twilight sessions for working parents, are already happening: don't be afraid to tell us.

The CHYP SHOP

We also have a separate website devoted to children and young people, called "The CHYP Shop".

Our mascot “Chyp” is always ready to listen to the views of children and young people, and we have established some groups for young people to get together and put their views forward.

These young people - our "AmbasSENDors"- are already supporting the Local Authority's SEND Strategic Board and have contributed to a variety of consultations during 2022.

  • We often get asked to provide feedback to show how useful SEND IASS has been in supporting children, young people and their families.

We need to hear from you about how the service supported you and whether we met your expectations.

We have 6 quick questions which will help us to achieve this – it should take less than 5 minutes to complete.

We have asked you for your name so that we do not contact you again to ask for feedback – however, you can choose not to include it if you wish.
